Summary: The article discusses highlights of a benchmarking study that identifies organizational success factors for technology licensing. The study methodology is given. The study showed that strategic intent alone is not enough to profit from licensing. The organizational factors that have a strong positive effect on the licensing performance of companies are discussed, including assigning dedicated employees to work full-time on identifying licensing opportunities and implementing deals, relying on existing networks with other companies, setting up teams to identify licensing opportunities and creating transfer project teams.
