Celebrating the spirit of Special Education through Inclusive Education - A Case Study - - 18-22p.
Article 41 and 45 in the constitution of India
advocates free, compulsory and universal
elementary education, which is currently
implemented through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan
(SSA). Under the Right to Education Act (RTE-
2009), free and compulsory education is a
national mandate for children of 6-14 years of
age, including children with special needs. This
has revolutionized the concept of inclusive
Education for people with disability. The SSAhas
also provisions for its own inclusive education
and resource teachers to ensure the inclusion of
children with special needs in the regular schools.
India being a signatory to UN Convention on
Rights to Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD),
all the programmes such as Human Resource
development, Research and Development
services and other activities are all being
designed to meet the mandate of mainstreaming
the persons with disabilities.
This paper would attempt to discuss the genesis
of Inclusive Education in the light of Inclusive
Schools which are trying to mobilize support for
the dignity, rights and well being of, persons with
disabilities.
