Despite attempts to bring countries together through the process of regional cooperation, neither peace nor regional cooperation has been fully realized in South Asia mainly due to inter- and intra-state conflicts. The article traces the process of evolution and prospect of development through regional economic cooperation in South Asia and advocates full-fledged political, economic and social cooperation among South Asian countries for the economic development of the region.
